Games cannot be played without a qualified referee team. To encourage coaches, players and their families to
become trained and volunteer as referees, the region will award the following points for each game refereed to any
team with which that referee is affiliated:
What does it mean to be Affiliated:
To be Affiliated to a team, one of the following must apply:
- The referee is a parent, relative1 or sibling of a player or coach on the team
- The referee is a coach or assistant coach for the team
- A player/family has recruited a new volunteer/referee that has had no prior volunteer association to Region 34. This volunteer/referee will remain affiliated to this player/family for the duration of time that the player/family continues to play in Region 34. These Volunteers must be, or must become, certified AYSO referees before they are authorized to referee in Region 34 and begin to earn Referee Volunteer Points.

Qualification for Beach Cup Tournament
At the end of the Fall Season, the region will hold a Beach Cup Invitational Tournament to determine which teams will advance
to Area League Tournament competition in January. To qualify for the Beach Cup, a team must
have earned the following levels of Referee Volunteer Points in addition to fulfilling their assigned snack bar
volunteer duty and completed the team snack bar shift.
7/8U and 16/19U teams do not play in Beach Cup. 16/19U teams will play in a season-end Area Tournament and are required to earn the same number of referee points as 14U.
Teams that do not fulfill these requirements will not participate in Beach Cup, regardless of their win/loss record in
regular season play.
Points are earned primarily by refereeing games. Other ways to earn points for Beach Cup qualification include:
- Recruiting New Referees (up to 3 points per new referee) – Teams will be awarded one bonus point for each new referee that attends Regional Referee training and referees one game. One additional bonus point can be earned for refereeing a second and third game, to a maximum of three points per new referee. These points are earned in addition to normal referee match points
- Volunteer as a Field Monitor - 1 Hour for 1 Beach Cup Point. 2021 Signup Link: Field Monitor Sign Up (A minimum of 1/2 the points must be from Refereeing)
- There may be additional volunteer opportunities set forth by the region as needs arise. Coaches of teams having difficulty qualifying for Beach Cup should contact their Division Captain for more information.
Referee Rewards
To encourage referees to continue to volunteer after their team qualifies for Beach Cup, the region will reward teams
that go above and beyond Beach Cup requirements with a financial award that can be used for a year-end team
party, coaches gifts, or other pre-approved team-related expenditures. These awards are earned solely by referee
volunteer points and do not include points for snack bar auxiliary or points earned for other volunteer
activities.
